VMAAF is a registered trust consisting of family and close friends of Venu Menon and is the moving spirit behind the Venu Menon National Animal Awards. Some of the objectives of the Foundation are to promote respect for animal life among all segments of society; to undertake work that would encourage people to work for animals (both domestic and wild), and help alleviate their suffering; and also to conduct projects or programmes that would motivate different sections of society to pro-actively work against cruelty to animals. It also aims to help in educating the public about conservation of life. Respect for life is the basic tenet of VMAAF. The organisation is currently a zero-organisational-cost, completely voluntary body that comes together for the duration of nomination seeking, selection and giving away of the awards.
Respect for life is basic tenet of VMAAF. Our
first step was to institute the Venu Menon Animal Welfare
Awards in 1999. It was our way of recognising and rewarding
the unsung people who have made caring for animals a way of
life for themselves. We know that a pat on the back, a little
encouragement can go a long way in enthusing people to care
for animals and work to alleviate their sufferings. And it
is our belief that we have taken a small step in that direction,
by instituting these awards. In fact, the VMAAF awards have
already carved out a niche for themselves.
Aims and Objectives of VMAAF :
- To promote respect for animal life among
all segments of society.
- To undertake works which will motivate different
sections of the society to work actively against cruelty
to animals.
- To encourage people to care for animals
and work towards alleviating the sufferings of both domestic
and wild animals.
- To educate the masses about the basic concept
of conservation of life.
The Board of the Venu Menon Animal Allies Foundation comprises of Mr K.B. Menon, Mrs Leela Menon, Ms Jaba Menon, Mrs Reba Sen Mazumdar and Mr Vivek Menon (Managing Trustee).
