Eighth Venu Menon National Animal Awards: 2006
The Venu Menon National Animal Awards, India's premier private awards that commemorate excellence in animal welfare, were given away at a function by veteran parliamentarian Dr Najma Heptullah in New Delhi on February 19, 2006.

The VMAAF awards are an attempt to appreciate the hard work and efforts by individuals and organisations in the field of animal welfare. They are also aimed at sensitising the general public about animal rights and creating a much-needed awareness about animal care. The Venu Menon National Animals Award is the principal award that recognises the work of an individual who has contributed most significantly to the cause of animal welfare.

This year the jury comprised journalist-writer and environmentalist Bittu Sahgal, film personality and social worker Revathy, danseuse Kiran Segal, and veteran wildlifer and scientist PC Bhattacharjee.
